music video first draft analysis

I feel after watching my first draft that improvements need to made.

  • For example the video doesn't contain enough content. What I mean by this is that the only feature is shots of backgrounds which feature urban environments which put a depressing outlook on the song which goes hand in hand with the genre and theme of the song (that being sad and depressing). But band footage is also a feature of this genre and goes with fragmented narrative (a feature of post modern media). This means more footage that I need to acquire to provide a band performance.
  • Another improvement that needs to be made is the editing. When the video goes on the editing doesn't go with the song which would make the video go with song instead of  it just being a video but with a soundtrack going over it. To make ot a professional video I need the editing cuts going

Convention of forms

The conventions of a music video:
Fast editing
Either a narrative the fans can get behind, Performance video or an artistic video
Lighting
Multiple locations
Multiple costumes
Depending on the genre the violence of the video (my genre it would be conventional to use mature themes)
Featuring the artist
using the message that the record label would like to give to the fans to find the right audience (for example a niece audience they can focus on one type of audience, Mainstream artists will have to focus on a variety of audiences got to appeal to the mass audience)
Might feature sounds that go with the narrative that didn't go with the original recording of the song.
Play with themes like narrative theories or might use different cultural beliefs
